The Business Challenge
Woodies had been through a recent major overhaul in management and culture. A hugely progressive people culture, the company had invested heavily in continuous leadership training over the previous years. The head of Training and Development was looking for an alternative approach to the very successful insights training they had recently worked through. While this had become intrinsic to their culture, it had also become slightly prescriptive and it was thought some training that was ‘completely different’ was needed to reintroduce the human approach to leadership.
Alongside the leadership training, the company was going through gradual store refits and wanted some behavioural training that echoed elements of the leadership training to fit the brand identity refresh in these stores.
Following hearing about a talk at the ‘Happy Conference, Ireland’, their Head of Engagement got in touch to discuss if we could help them.
The Solution
A bespoke 3-day Authentic Leadership programme was designed to complement and enhance the previous leadership programme. A unique approach was essential as the company had a strong desire to get back to basics in a human approach. This would be taken across the 90 strong leadership team.
To complement this, a half-day workshop on ‘How You Show Up’ was also designed for the newly refit stores.
The Results
Around 180 employees to date (including 90 leaders) have been through the training. There has been more openness and less silo working, as well as heightened self-awareness and communication.
When comparing results across the stores, it was found that there was on average a 7% upturn in sales in the trained stores against those who hadn’t yet been trained.
