Monday mornings are not for everyone.
Many of us find ourselves clutching onto the weekend as Sunday evening draws to a close.
A 2014 study conducted by Mind shows that,
“Two thirds (66 percent) of people experience ‘Sunday Blues’, anxiety triggered by thoughts of work the following day.”
A thriving business needs a team practicing company values and representing its brand every day. Here at Inspire Me, our values include communication, passion, energy and consistency so ‘Sunday blues’ just won’t do!
If you regularly feel less-productive in your workplace because it’s a Monday, there are small changes you can make to ensure you’re showing up to work being the best version of yourself every day of the week.
How many of us have been told that ‘Monday is the most stressful day of the week’?
Ringing any bells?
These types of statements could be conditioning us to expect stress.
Here’s the thing, we haven’t always associated Mondays with hassle.
We’re not born worrying about the start of each week; it’s a thought process we’ve developed over time. But there is still hope!
We are so privileged to have choice in our lives; we choose to work where we do, choose who we spend our time with and how we spend our money.
On an emotional level, we choose the values we live by and how we show up to work.
Our happiness is our own responsibility and we owe it to ourselves to create the best life we possibly can.
Many of us waste precious hours feeling disengaged in the workplace when we could be bringing something amazing to it; our energy, passion and our positivity.
Here are some things you can do to put productivity back into Mondays!
It’s amazing how simple this sounds and how little it’s practiced. All too often we find ourselves running around the house on Monday morning looking for a pair of socks, the cat still needs to be fed and our keys aren’t where we thought they were.
Mondays don’t have to be manic!
Try spending thirty minutes every Sunday evening getting prepared for your working week.
In this time, prepare your lunch (make sure it’s something healthy and colourful!), lay your clothes out (including those socks!) and avoid the mayhem altogether.
Put your keys in their rightful place – even put the teabag in your mug ready for the wake-up the following morning. When you’re organised before leaving the house, you’re organised for the rest of the day.
Here are Inspire Me, we’ve introduced Monday Fundays.
Diving straight into meetings as soon as you walk through the office door can be overwhelming on the sunniest of mornings which is why we’ve introduced fifteen minutes at the beginning of the week to do something together as a team that’s completely unrelated to the business and is always a load of fun.
Ours consists of card games, mini raves, meditations, smoothie-making sessions and getting creative with arts and crafts…
It’s a great way to remind all employees that wellbeing is paramount when it comes to the workplace and fifteen minutes of teambuilding sets everybody on the right path to last the whole Monday through.
Be the person who organises a monthly breakfast for your team.
It doesn’t have to involve a lot of fuss, just a quick email with a time and place should do the trick. It’s not often people turn down a round of toast, and the change of scenery is always a bonus.
This is an inexpensive way to engage with your team and ease yourself into the working week.
Try holding your team meeting around the breakfast table and see how different the frequency is.
Your leadership team care about you and want you to feel energised and productive when you come into work each day!
It’s OK to tell them you need some support if you do.
Take your happiness seriously.
Ask yourself, does your Monday work schedule need tweaking to make the day more manageable?
Make a note of your ideas and present them to your leaderships team.
William Hartston published an article in The Express and wrote,
“According to a study by Marmite in 2011, the average person in the UK does not smile on a Monday until 11.16am.”
That’s a sobering sentence considering that for many of us, the alarm goes off before 7am!
Good vibes are contagious, so pass them on!
Choose to show up to your workplace being the best version of yourself, let a driver pull-out in front of you at a junction, stop and help someone who needs it.
Smiling at someone goes a long way and actually evokes feelings of happiness. So do it! Be kind, always and you will make a positive difference to the World before you even step into the office!

“Attitude is a choice. Happiness is a choice. Optimism is a choice. Kindness is a choice. Giving is a choice. Respect is a choice. Whatever choice you make makes you. Choose wisely.”
